Barbara
Beard has thirty-four years of management experience, including premier
hotel companies, start-up and Fortune 500 computer companies, consulting
firms and riding stables. Educated at the University of Southern
California, and Reed College, Mrs. Beard continued her studies throughout
her career at Portland State University School of Business Administration,
Oregon State University Graduate School of Business Management, and
Arizona State University. She has additional certificates in Return on
Investment Valuation, Budgeting, Personnel Management, Sales and
Marketing, Security Management, Productivity Management, IT Management,
Project Management, among numerous others. Mrs. Beard became a senior
member of the Society of Technical Communicators and the American Society
for Training and Development and has been active in numerous professional
associations serving the hospitality, training, technical writing, and
equestrian fields, as well as community service. Her first articles to
assist business owners were published in the prestigious hospitality trade
publications Lodging and Hotel & Motel Management in 1989,
one of which explained how the sales and marketing departments could use
online databases to gain a competitive edge. In 1990 Mrs. Beard was
listed in Who’s Who of U.S. Executives. She has given numerous speeches,
workshops and seminars on various equine and business topics.
Mrs. Beard first learned to ride as a child near
Devil’s Gate Dam and Hansen Dam in Southern California, at home in La
Cańada, the Flintridge Riding Academy, and pleasure hacks in Griffith Park
in Los Angeles. With her husband, Joseph C. Beard, III, Mrs. Beard
co-owned and operated Del Camino Equestrian Academy in Scottsdale Arizona
from 1996 to 2007. There she designed and delivered horsemanship clinics,
workshops and camps for youth and adults, managed the care of 20 to 40
horses, put on in-barn shows, and of course, gave riding lessons 7 days a
week, swept crossties, maintained the website, did the payroll, printed
the brochures, hauled water when the pump went out, and hosed horses on
113 degree afternoons, among all the other fun and not-so-fun jobs that go
with running a small business that involves caring for people and big,
fragile animals. Barbara is a NARHA Registered Level Certified Therapeutic Riding Instructor, and Certified Special Olympics Equestrian Coach.
She has lived in the same house in Phoenix, Arizona with
her husband, Joe, since 1985. They maintain it exactly as their female
brindle boxer, Clue expects, for her comfort and joy.
Mrs.
Beard is available for workshops, keynote speaking,
expert witness, and consultation.
