Aged Grey Arab Gelding and Young Boy

JJ Kahnsquest and his special friend, Jeffrey Tolson, Jr.

We adopted or rescued some of our school horses . JJ Kahnsquest was a retired show horse, a registered purebred Arabian gelding, who had been standing in a small backyard for years, getting swaybacked and hay bellied.  We adopted him at age 18, and spent a few months rebuilding his condition, muscle and stamina on the lunge line. JJ lived the rest of his life happy and healthy with Del Camino, doing carrot stretches and getting tummy lift scratches.  At age 24 heart failure caused him to limit his activity to hand walking and grooming, until it took him across the Rainbow Bridge.

JJ Kahnsquest gives Kaddie Stephens an equitation lesson in the Del Camino small arena at age 21.

With proper exercise, leg supports like the polo wraps shown here, and daily GLC5500 joint supplement, his creakiness at the trot disappeared.

An interesting coincidence.  Both of these children later acquired their own show jumpers and began competing on the A-circuit.  After a few shows they were state equitation champions.  While JJ was not the only horse they learned horsemanship and riding with, he was a favorite of both.  Quality people and horses seem to find one another!
