Grant Writing

We write grant requests for horse-related businesses and non-profits. Our method is based on the Logic Model, which is frequently required for government grant requests, even small ones.  We also excel at:
bullet Researching appropriate grants to match your request with the most likely benefactors.
bullet Writing a compelling description of your need, accomplishments and project.
bullet Attention to the details of the format required by the granting organization.
bullet Professional supporting documents, such as the cover letter and the project budget when required.  We provide a complete package that is ready to sign and send.
bullet Communication with you and the grantor to ensure your proposal is well-received and timely.

Our fee schedule for grant writing is based on a sliding scale for the complexity and size of the grant proposal and very economical.  We do this because we have so much experience with requests for proposals (RFPs) and award-winning technical writing, as well as a mission to help horse businesses, especially non-profits.

For new clients we offer a "Try Us" plan.  We also offer a special discount to equine non-profits that provide activities to American military, veterans, and their families.   Contact Us for more information.

Reservation Management

If your horse business includes a dude ranch, bed and breakfast, carriage service, campsites, wild horse watching tours, or trail rides, you know how important it is to ensure that reservations are managed so that you do not overbook but also do not turn down business holding reservations that "no show".  Manage your reservations professionally and effectively with software used by other hospitality businesses: hotels, motels, and resorts.

Teaching Beginners for Riding Instructors - a Train the Trainer Session Your State Conference Needs

For Therapeutic Riding Stables, or Professional Breed or Discipline Associations or Clubs, this dynamic presentation can be adapted to a classroom demonstration, or an arena with horses and riders.  Invest in your future, your career, the well-being of your teaching horses, and your students.  Designed for:

bullet novice instructors, with or without recent Equine Science degrees,
bullet therapeutic riding instructors who have completed NARHA certification but have little formal training in specific riding disciplines,
bullet therapeutic riding instructors who have personal experience in only one discipline but need to teach another,
bullet Special Olympic Equestrian coaches.
bullet assistant trainers who have been given the assignment to teach riders in private or group lessons who themselves mostly have experience schooling horses or competing, rather than instructing

In order to be a good riding instructor who gets results - that is, whose students progress in safety and communication, balance and skills, several coaching skill sets of the instructor must converge.  It is not enough to be a good rider yourself, or to know the basics of managing the logistics of a beginner or therapeutic riding class, or how to train a horse.  You must also be able to read the horse, the assistive team, understand the equipment, and the basics of teaching a sport that requires balance and communication with an animal to achieve safety and control.

Ninety percent of all accidents with beginners could be avoided by instructors, including those seemingly due to the horse or rider error, or environmental surprises.

Most school horses and therapy horses can perform well for decades without "reschooling" when instructors creatively teach positive skills from the very beginning, and can read the horses.  Teaching beginners requires the most skill as an instructor, and the most experience.  Gain the insight and techniques that enable your students of any age or ability to learn, have fun, and be safe.  Beginners and school or therapy horses that work with them, need the BEST teachers.  Too often the most experienced trainers or riding instructors only work with the intermediate and advanced students.  Yet it is the beginners, and the horses that must balance under them and try to figure out what the rider (and possibly horse handler, coach, and sidewalker) are doing that need the BEST teachers the most!  These teams are the most dependent upon a very skilled instructor who is a very clear, precise, and knowledgeable communicator.  An instructor who develops beginner riders must understand

bullet

what skills to focus upon first,

bullet

why working on a rider's hands when the rider is not balanced is doomed to failure and frustration for the rider, horse, and teacher, and

bullet

how to achieve that balance in a fun way.

bullet

How to demonstrate a skill yourself without having it backfire on you.

bullet

How to develop lightness.

bullet

How to achieve control without relying on the reins (for therapeutic riding instructors working with a halter, rather than a bridle, with or without a horse handler at the other end of a lead rope - this is mission critical).

bullet

Tips for choosing arena exercises that work.

Forming a Horse Supplies Buying Co-Op

In today's economy every kind of horse stable - from boutique dressage and trail riding boarding facilities, to small breeders, to equine-assisted therapy centers, to horse retirement farms, struggle valiantly  with steadily rising costs for feed, bedding, water, pesticides, electricity, truck and tractor fuel, trash removal, and other necessities. Many are curious about forming a co-operative purchasing group in their neighborhood, but are uncertain how to begin, or worry that they cannot manage the logistics in addition to their current heavy workload.  Others doubt that the savings can be sufficient to warrant the extra work and financial risk they believe they would need to assume.

This seminar is for professional breed or discipline associations or clubs, or for state conferences of therapeutic riding centers or horse rescues.  You can do it!  We know how.

bullet

We'll discuss various modern methods of reaching other stables in your area to cooperate in buying staple goods at the lowest possible cost.

bullet

Where to concentrate your efforts when you have very little time to devote to meeting, communicating, pooling funds, receiving shipments, distributing shares.

bullet

How to get over the hurdle of professional competition in other aspects of the for-profit or non-profit horse business.

bullet

How to get inexpensive expert help.

This is a hands-on clinic for participants to leave with specific action plans and a raft of practical ideas with how-to steps to get started right away saving money and gaining peace of mind that supplies will be there when they need them.
