Del Camino offers a special class
designed for boys and girls aged 7 to 8 to introduce them to the joys and
rewards of horsemanship and riding. Enrollment is limited to four or
five children so that the instructor can work with each child individually
during the session.
Held October through April on Sunday afternoons, Discovery is a one and a
half hour class we have offered for fifteen years. Youngsters sign up
to attend four sessions by prepaying the $125.00 fee and completing the
necessary paperwork.
  Each week the children practice
haltering, leading, grooming, and help tack their horse. Safety
helmets are provided, and the children take turns riding to learn basic
balance, posture, and control of the horse to start, stop and steer at the walk
and trot. The class learns about safely approaching and moving around
horses, and topics such as parts of the horse's body, the names of members
of the horse family, horse colors and markings, during the four-week
course.
